Evangelism Illegal in America
Those of us keeping an eye on the news and an "eye on the sky" are busy these days. So much predicted by the prophets of old and the writers of the New Testament--starting with Jesus--are now coming into fruition. And while there are a lot of "scoffers," I am hearing from more people daily who have loved ones asking questions about our tumultuous times. Some just flat-out ask what the Bible says about events and, "are these the end-times?" It often requires a disaster to get people's attention. Just as problematic is then holding their attention.
If 2004 went out with a sickening bang as the sea swallowed up tens of thousands, 2005 promises culture clashes almost as significant. Tsunamis don't have to be literal. The waves and the sea are roaring through society and America is not left out. All that is good and righteous is challenged not just daily, but minute by minute.
Did you know evangelism is a criminal charge in America? In early October, eleven Christians were arrested in Philadelphia after preaching to a crowd of homosexuals at a gay "outfest." Four of them have been bound over for trial on felony charges that carry a maximum penalty of 47 years in prison. The "silence" of that city's clergymen is deafening due to fear, and as one observer notes, "Right now, the gays own Philadelphia." For such culture news, I recommend the Web site of The American Family Association, www.afa.net. They also feature ways to "fight back."
Clearly the "ACLU" (Assault Christian Liberties Unmercifully), "People for the (un)American Way", and others, would like to see "faith" in America be nothing but a sad history lesson. The good news is that they don't stand a chance, which doesn't mean the battle won't rage.
"World Net Daily" reports today that in the presidential inauguration parade, the only symbols forbidden are Christian symbols. A spokesman for the Secret Service, in charge of the event because of the intense security, told "World Net Daily," that the cross symbols are forbidden because it is a "security issue" and not a "religious issue." I have heard of "the offence of the cross" but didn't know it was a security threat in America. If you believe that spokesman, I can sell you a winter vacation spot to lie on the beaches of Minnesota in January.
My guess is that the inauguration protestors and "peace protesters" on January 20 will get away with just about anything while the "Prince of Peace" gets the shaft. Those with a more "righteous agenda" have "restrictions" while the world's media will fall all over the protestors capturing every moment on camera. We're in that Isaiah 5:20 generation where evil is called good, and good, evil. That's where "keeping your eye on the sky" is helpful because in the very end, you know who wins. Good people and God's people are seldom popular because of the "war in the Heavenlies" played out on earth. Eternity makes up for it.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
